London based Competitive salary The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman is one of the most important and challenging roles in the public sector. The Ombudsman provides an independent and impartial complaints handling service making final decisions on complaints that government departments, a range of other public bodies in the UK and the NHS in England have not acted properly or fairly or have provided a poor service. The next Ombudsman will need to be able to galvanise and motivate staff across the 450 strong organisation to deliver high quality and robust investigations and to make sure that the lessons are learnt across the public sector. Government proposals for major reform of the public ombudsman service mean that you will need to be a strong leader of change. This is a unique opportunity to support Parliament in holding to account those delivering public services as well as to help drive improvements in complaints handling and public services. There is no prescribed professional background for the Ombudsman. This role requires a mix of skills and experience that will inspire confidence in your ability to take difficult decisions independently and impartially and to use your influence to achieve change across the public sector. Personal resilience and ability to work in an environment where decisions are under tough public scrutiny will also be key.
